Fall Check List

Our Fall Check List for Your Lawn and Landscape

It’s September and we are already seeing signs of autumn’s approach. Leaves are falling and starting to accumulate on the ground, and summer plants are winding down activity. The mild summer weather we’ve been having has taken lawns to new levels this year. It’s time to get your lawn and landscape in order before winter. Here is a checklist of a few tasks we can take care of for you this fall:

Fertilize the Lawn

Fertilizer should have been applied throughout the growing season to provide food for the lawn. Fall is a good time to apply a slow release fertilizer that feeds the lawn throughout the colder months. It will break down slowly with more effect occurring below ground while the grass above goes dormant. Give us a call so we can schedule a time to prepare your lawn for the long winter months.

Plant Trees and Shrubs

Fall is the best time for plantings trees. The gradual cooling of the weather allows new trees some time to get established before winter. For existing trees, our tree pruning services help to preserve your trees and shrubs as well as encourage future growth. Another important consideration is that removing precarious branches and overgrowth improves the safety and value of your property. It reduces the chance of fallen tree and branch damage to persons or home during the more volatile storm activity in fall and winter.

Clean Up Lawn and Yard

Fall leaf clean up keeps the fallen decomposing material from covering and damaging your lawn. It also helps prevent clogged drains and slippery walking surfaces. And of course, raking and removing leaves in the autumn leads to a clean and tidy landscape.

Design, Install and Repair Landscape, Walkways and Patios

To prepare for wet and icy weather, check walkways and steps. Look for cracks more than 1/8-inch wide, for any uneven sections on walkways and areas on steps. Fixing any problems in the fall is critical for the safety of people walking on your property in the winter months. We install hardscapes and landscapes that are both beautiful and safe to walk on.
